Subject: Re: Radiators and Thermostats

Here is my .02. As the coolant in going thru the engine, the stat keep's the coolant in the engine for the heat to transfer to it(coolant). If the stat is out, the heat cannot transfer into the coolant fast enough to allow the engine to cool properly. Stats are used to warm the engine up to (1) for emmissions, (2) so that you can have a heater in to cold months, but most importantly (3) for cooling the engine.

On the rad. side of the story, there is usually only a 7 to 15 degree drop from top to bottom. More than that as you either have an external plugging problem or and internal flow problem.

Hope this info will help. Not an expert by any means, but have been serving the over-the-road engine for almost 14 years. You can guess which one.
