If its the same as a 14 series final drive,I think you can just remove the bearing retainer plate and slide the pinion gear out of the housing,without removing the final drive.
If the only thing wrong with that shaft is worn splines,this trick will double it's life. There are several inches of unused splined shaft beyond the coupler on a 1480. If you take another new coupler and chop saw it in half right across the pin hole and weld each half to the outside of the original coupler,you end up with an extra wide coupler that runs on the new unused shaft part of the pinion gears. I did that on one of ours a dozen years ago,and it still works like new. slide the 1 & 1/2 coupler parts on the pinion shaft to line up the splines before tack welding them. Do not get the pinion shaft hot enough to ruin the oil seal, finish the coupler weld off the pinion shaft.
