MN | Steins are tight still, maybe not as bad as coloreds. As per my post from earlier this week, I actually filled up with free-martins! (*gasp*) I like to get beef/dairy crosses if available as well. But I change what I feed to whatever I feel is the better buy at the time.
Like crete said, not as much money to play, especially for me because I buy light calves, try to get 200#'ers. I used to feed bottle calves, but I just don't have the time anymore and I never thought it was "worth it" for the effort. Takes a special talent to do a good job, patience patience patience.
I feed snapplage + distillers grains (either mods or ddgs), and when my snapplage runs out sweet corn cannery waste (in season) + corn screenings + distillers, and they finish out fine. Actually, I think they do better than on the stuffer. Always seemed to have some steers "blow out" on the stuffer, I dunno, a lot of people do it that way. | |
