1st good of you to think of your kids future.
I did the 529 plans and wasn't impressed. They talk how safe they are later in the plan, 2008 hit and the plan went in half! My son was a junior in high school. Needless to say I had a hard talk with the broker. They had the pat answers, don't touch it, it will grow back and it did. My guess is talk to your tax man and ask what he sees? Unless he's selling them, then go ask someone else.
