Subject: Re: Silage yield monitors?

SC Wisconsin
I have seen the Deere system operating over several summer/fall seasons on our experimental farm in Wisconsin. The system is NIR based for moisture which opens the door to much more data collection than just moisture. The system works and looks like a big step forward in the yield monitoring world. Interestingly one of the big reasons the system was pushed forward was the need to get an accurate moisture determination to determine the precise rates for inocullants used on the chopper. I would like to see something coming from the machine cutting the forage crop as well - think of the effects of merging windrows and rain and the biomass losses. A lot can happen between cutting and harvest in this climate!
