This is something I've played with in the past,
about 4 years ago i had a potentiometer hooked up to the feedrolls on a forage harvester, this measured the gap between them & gave pretty reasonable results. You had to figure out the moisture or dry matter content. I think this is similat to the method Deere have used in Europe the last year or so.

This year I have tried a CropCircle sensor mounted on the mowing tractor, this didn't give an actual yield but it did give a relative biomass map. I think there is a lot of scope in the future for this type of sensor be it greenseeker, cropcircle or the Yara device.

Maybe if I get the time I'll have both the Cropcircle data & hook up the potentiometer to the forager again to see if there is a similarity between the two.
