SW Ontario | One thing I will add...no matter what the wind chill is reported to be or how fast the wind is...if the air temp is -40 a piece of steel will only get down to -40.
It will get to that temp faster, the faster the wind is blowing, but it will only get to that ambient temp and stay there.
Humans on the other hand, will 'feel' the effects of the cold similar to a colder temp than the actual measured ambient temp.
Clear as mud?
I will add...your thermometer will read the exact same temp if it is still air or in the wind...makes no difference.
Windchill is measured with a 'wet' thermometer.
