I'm in the process of doing the same thing for the same reason.   Ours are going on the main frame for the reasons stated.  I seriously considered an override switch and would have done it if time pressed, except for other issues concerning which valves shut the drive off and how that effects other hydraulic issues, both probably unique to our planter (we're using hydraulic shutoffs rather then tru-count, and our seed rate is controlled by the planter controller, which shuts the PWM valve in response to the implement switch, killing the whole drive hydraulic system, while the row shutoffs are controlled by the ez-boom which shuts off the motors individually)  Really the 'planting when it's not supposed to' is only a problem if you drive outside of the field with the hydraulics for the drives engaged, as the boom control will have it shut off any other time.  Our drives are never engaged unless they need to be due to lack of hydraulic capacity.  Our planter already has a switch to detect whether the wings are fully in field position, which could probably be incorporated into this logic circuit if needed.
