Subject: RE: Custom cattle feeding

Saronville NE
I have custom fed a few pens, but nothing major. The 30 cents of yardage just covers your expense, and feed you have to figure min of 10% shrink in on top and mark feed up 10% to make that work, IMO. What Ive done its worked and been profitable, but I presently only feed 50 head a yr for 2 neighbors and just blend them with my own cattle not tying up 2 pens with 30 head and 20 head, they been real happy. Even the disaster we had last year with 1 guys calves getting sick, nobodys elses did in that pen, he still was happy way it turned out, and is back again this year, this year we pulled only 4 so far in 60 days, so way better then last year.

Edit:

Those same 50 head last year though would have made me $200+ a head, instead of the $50 a head it figured out to be after yardage, feed mark up etc. So woulda been better to buy 50 more of my own. But same note been more yrs I only made $50 a head owning my own then the big bucks also.
