High temperature can cause a break in the hair follicle. With swollen joints a high fever is likely. I would take his temp, make sure he is eating and drinking, making move him in where it is dry. Then talk to the vet. I would think he needs antibiotics and an anti inflammatory.
The hair lose can be many other things as well but the swollen joints are concerning
