southwestern Pa, on the Mason-Dixon line | Hey Mace I enjoyed this post.... I just sold some 4 wt steers through a local calf pool and got $310 a cwt picked up here.
Some of these were off of stockyard- trash pairs that I had bought back in May and June( avg about $1300 a pair!) to help use up some extra grass. I still have the old cows and plenty of baleage....can't bring myself to sell the old nags....it would be like selling the geese that lay the golden eggs!
I have a good many more calves to sell this fall...can't decide when to dump the rest. Btw freight out of here is $3.80 a mile.... a lot of our fall calves from this area end up in Oklahoma on wheat for the winter.
Yearlings will usually end up in KS, Iowa , or Ne.
I also sold some 9 wt yearling steers through a pool....They went to Iowa and brought $1.95 a cwt picked up here straight off of grass. |
