nw NC | Exertion of movement for the "few hundred yards" could have caused extra stress on a defective heart leading to heart failure. Animals can have heart attacks and strokes the same as humans. I had a 6 hour old Holstein bull calf drop dead as he was vigorously nursing his first bottle. He did not choke on milk, just dropped dead. Vet said defective heart, it just stopped beating. A friend loaded a steer to take to the slaughter house. Well grown, appeared normal in every way, it was dead in the trailer when he arrived at slaughter house. My children had some pet Pygmy goats. One of them was found dead at several years of age. A year or so later the other one was found down and paralyzed on one side; traditional symptoms of stroke in humans.
