Central MN | So I have a question about compost barns. I do not currently milk but I like the idea of them and the cow comfort, not needing to have liquid manure holding facilities, and the simplicity of them. The part I do not like is that sawdust is the recomended material. I feel that it would be expensive plus the fact of having to run around to find sawdust. So I guess what my question is could a person get away with stiring oat straw and adding barn lime to it? I know that it is used in tie stall barns to help soak up excess moisture. Or would that cost to much for how much you would have to apply?
Just a thought that I had not sure if it would work though! | |
