Watford City, ND | Here in western NoDak, tens of thousands of calves are handled just that way - round up in the pasture, cut of the mama's, and haul to the sales barn.
Half are done on Monday and Wednesday afternoon, hauled to the barn for the following days sale, and others do it Tuesday or Thursday morning, and get them in early in the afternoon. Doesn't always work (time wise) to wean them the day of. Lots of neighboring goes on here.
We have a 90 mile haul to the sales barn. Works fine.
