If you have grass to use and your not attached to them, sell the cows and buy light calves back.  Quicker turnaround, and when you eventually get bit by paying too much and/or selling for too little the numbers won't be as big as they would be with overpriced cows.  You can also choose to use feeder futures to hedge your purchases, something you cannot do with cows.
