ecmn | at $1500 for a feeder, about a dollar a day for feed, (based on $30/ton silage, minerals,salts, protein, and 120$/ton hay) you need $1.4 just to break even. that's if you have no animal loss's. the calculator shows that there is money to make, 80 good head could get close to a $20k income. not bad but the sticker shock of 80 animals at todays price is a tough pill to swallow.
as volatile as markets are in todays world I think it would be tough to go to the bank and ask for 200k for some steers hoping that in a year the markets will still be there to sell?
