The northern TX Panhandle has always been a hotbed for investment farms. There is constant irrigation development due TX's lack of restriction on new wells and pumping. It seems as though land changes hands there regularly. I would imagine that cheap corn has the investment money running out of the operation side of farming currently and they are hoping to recoup their money tied up in land. Water there is all over the board for quantity, but every gallon of it is DEEP! Pumping costs at current energy prices are eating their lunch...
