E. Kansas | I'd say your local taxing authorities are completely out of control. $100/acre is beyond ridiculous, and why will it stop there? The school district will continue to "need" more and more every year, as will your other taxing authorities.
Land owners need to get on the meeting agenda for the school board meetings and any other places that are responsible for your high taxes and let it be known that their spending has to be brought under control. You're paying the ridiculous taxes they're imposing, and you'll have to monitor what they're doing and speak up. None of these "hands are tied" excuses can be accepted or nothing will ever change. These individuals were elected, so hold them fully accountable. No reason for any of them to escape a good butt chewing, and know that they're in line for a lot more until the spending is brought under control.
Sounds like your area is wanting population growth, so they're enticing it by holding or lowering taxes on residential and then gladly soaping the land owners.
