Subject: Chamberlain to Wall, SD

Turner County, SD
Just got back from a trip to the Black Hills. Noticed that there were lots of unplanted fields west of Chamberlain. We also noticed that it appeared some fields had been sprayed to kill the crop growing. In the Scenic area we saw some corn that looked to have poor stands from what may have been wet conditions. We did see a few fields that had just recently been drilled with something. We are curious about your spring conditions in the area and the problems those of you in this area have faced this growing season.

I would also say what little wheat we saw, looked poor. We saw a custom cutter running in wheat that looked pretty good (from the road) east of Mitchell. On the whole trip, it was apparent that we've had good moisture this spring. It looked like a good cutting of hay was being harvested. Did get a bit tired of seeing all the sweet clover all over. We've had more sweet clover than usual in our area too but not as much as we saw west of the Missouri River and in the Badlands.
