I just started renting a pasture to a person with horses. She uses a bag of barley straw. She says it works. Sounds like it's a common thing. Something you can buy.

I've got lots of round bales of barley straw. Just seems counterproductive putting organic matter in the tank. Looks like it's just in a mesh bag. Be easy enough to try.
