Subject: RE: young calf vaccines?

Faunsdale, AL
X2, good to be working with calves from someone that cares.

I like the Enforce 3 on the young ones. I used the Bovashield Gold 5 for many years and I think the Enforce (2 years or so now) has been more satisfactory here in 2 month old weaned dairy calves. Also used the Virashield line of vaccines for a few years back when it was made by Grand Labs. It's a little "rough" on small calves unless they have cleaned it up a LOT since those days. Factory rep recommended using a 3ml dose instead of a 5ml on those little ones.

Do give a clostridial vaccine plus tetanus. Even if you cut all your bulls instead of banding, you will probably get one eventually that gets tetanus after castration and the cost to treat/loose the calf will pay for a lot of years of Tetanus toxoid.
