Beefbiz - 6/23/2014 10:29 Steam flakers do the best job of increasing the energy yield out of corn, but at a tremendous cost. The primary users of steam flakers are commercial yards that custom feed, because the water added in the process "gives" them more corn to sell. Large yards that own all of their own cattle tend to not use the flaker or remove them entirely because they don't need to sell water to themselves.

X2. Quite a few years back, some guys were buying steam rolled feed from the local Feed-Rite plant & putting it in their creep feeders, self feeders, & feed bins. They had problems with the feed heating & spoiling on them. That steam rolling was a real $ maker for Feed-Rite. They bought dry barley & tried to add as much water (weight) to it as possible.
