N FLA | I was counting on some $2000 pairs and hoping to stock back up with $750 bred cows in October November December. At least I'm hoping to be able to stock up again. I'm sitting on about 25 bred cows that were bought open or not checked. Ya know I averaged $425/head on the cull cows. 40% of them either wound up bred or were bred by my bull. I won't sell those until march to may. Takes more time. But has a much lower buyin cost.
Your idea isn't bad though. But calf prices seem to drop here pretty fast. Take a look at this. I still feel like 450 pounds is the sweet spot. But I have a bag of feed we were going to open in October and plenty of rye to graze in December. I think you're right these have a ways to go.
