Subject: feed cost-when you dont get first cost back?900# feeders

western iowa,by Denison
So after vast consumption of barley pop last nite at My son's 30th birthday,my neighbor asked how to figure feed cost if his 900# feeders didn't get first cost back-Bought $1900 steers -if he sell's them fat at 1275# and something strange happens to the market and gets $145 but needs $149 just for first cost?
Well lets see - -$51 plus 375#x>85=$318.75 feed cost plus the negative $51 would =$369.75 loss
only raised his feed cost to 98 cents instead of 85 cents'
He figured you could just keep feeding as the loss was only about 12% more for feed-I told him it might be better to just to give the feed away so that he wouldn't have to pay someone to take the feed with the cattle!
