It looks to me like they are counting on the salt content to limit intake, which is fine for "normal " cattle, but if you get a bunch that are thin and hungry they may eat too much, at least until they learn that there will be more tomorrow and they don't have to eat it all today.  You may get along better using those large blocks or hand feeding pellets once a day.
