When my dad had his needle biopsy, it wasn't phrased as "if" his lung collapsed, it was how severe the collapse would be.  As it turned out, he had a very tiny affect from biopsy and recovered from it fairly easily. I hope your mom is as fortunate.  It's certainly not an easy row to hoe, but modern medical science is a pretty amazing beast. Prayers for all good outcomes for your mom and your family.
