35 miles south of Houston,TX | Found this young dove today while I was out checking some of the corn. Tuesday we had 3" of rain and today it would barely stick to your boots. Anyway there is some time between then and now that the soil get real tacky, as is evident by this young birds claws. It could not fly well enough with the added weight to get to any water to remove the now dried mud. I washed it off and it was able to fly away. I have seen turtles before that get caught in one of the fields and the mud will build up on the bottom of there shells to the point that there legs no longer touch the ground. They are literally high centered and usually end up dieing from dehydration. Anyway this is the first time I had ever seen a bird with so much buildup. Sorry, couple of the pictures are blurry.
