| In my job, I see a lot of checks.
One elderly client had a $870 check for tomatoes. When I ask about it, he could not remember.
A few weeks later, he calls and said it was some tomatoes he purchased at a road side stand.
He said it was for $8.70. Due to poor writing skills, and check preparation, the check could be read either way.
I advised him to talk with banker.
Everyone in town knew who sells tomatoes every summer.
Banker calls up seller and tells him he can either pay back the difference, or police will be called.
Seller pays up.
As in previous posts, I see some elderly who may have 100 checks or more to various charitable organizations, for $5 -$20 each. The sad thing is that these people have a hard time getting by with what they have. I suspect these organizations sell mailing lists to each other. I have almost quit asking about the checks because invariably, what they say is "it makes me feel good".
