Sarcasm, or making a funny untrue comment. Ampere toy us he-man farmers are too cool to use the smile faces. ;). So someone years ago came up with using an asterisks to mean about the same thing.
As in, your coop is just ok is all, when of course I mean wow, that is darn fancy nice setup!
