I would try to get it bagged if at all possible. You will pay for the bagging with higher quality feed. If not at the very least build a long narrow bunker . If your not weighing it you don't notice the loss, but in my area your going to have 18 to 20% loss in a drive over pile, 10 to 12% in a bunker , or 5% or less in a bag. These are real world numbers I learned the hard way.
I stand by my numbers. the only thing I would change is the or less after 5%. I think with good inoculation and management 5% is achievable. The other numbers are with good management also. Without good management the sky is the limit on loss. Again I stress without weighing it you really don't know what you're losing.
