Wyoming | How much are you looking to spend Ed? I've got many s/w receivers, both tube and solid state. You can spend anywhere from a entry-level radio like this one up to several thousand bucks. If you're seeking to listen to the bigger s/w broadcast stations (eg, VOA, Deutsche Welle, the CBC, BBC, etc), the entry-level receivers like this one will do an OK job. When you want to listen to smaller s/w broadcast stations, now you start needing a higher performance receiver. Grundig's S350 appears to be an entry level receiver, sort of a throwback to the days of analog receivers with VFO's instead of a synthesized phase locked loop for frequency selection, single conversion instead of double (or triple) conversion, etc. There's nothing "wrong" with that; it makes it a very inexpensive receiver for what it can do, you just have to keep the limitations in mind when you're using it. If you get serious about s/w listening, you usually have to move into a AM+SW receiver and lose the FM broadcast stage, or the receiver has to have a FM broadcast receiver and a AM/SW receiver (ie, effectively two independent receivers) in the same box. This drives the price and complexity up.
