Northeast Iowa | Electricity has been no problem for us, but we haven't really had much ice. School has been closed several days because of impassible roads like the original poster's photos. The strange part is that we're setting, or close to setting, records for both snowfall and cold temperatures. Tons of snow doesn't always come with 40+ days below zero, too.
Life goes on, but you just take things into consideration before doing things or going places. The biggest challenge so far has been finding places to physically put all of the snow. Lots and lots of wind means 4" of snow at a time ends up with huge drifts. We're probably somewhere around 60" for the season so far, but the ground isn't much more than 6-12" below the snow that sits on top in the open. The really fun part will be the rate at which it melts.
I mean, I assume it's all going to melt.
