Beresford, SD
We are in a BEAR market. April discounted $8 to Cash and June discounted over $15, why would you keep feeding. Many in the Midwest (cash -open cattle) may add a few pounds but the commercial feeders are selling and selling them green and lite! (Hedged cattle) With the frost coming out the next 30 days and the futures saying sell now...............total tonnage is going to be way down. The packer is also very current with freezers EMPTY! Discounts in the futures are telling them why fill the freezers in a BEAR market! A bear market is not always negative.....especially when we are in the situation we are in........CURRENT in the feedyard and CURRENT at the freezer level. I expect April will expire at or near contract highs just like Feb did today! JMO!
