I also prefer to do my own marketing. I just do it with futures/options positions with Producers Livestock. They don't dictate the price of the hedge entry. They do like the cattle hedged up in a reasonable amount of time upon feedlot entry. I personally would rather not give the packer a commitment of cattle any earlier than I have to. When cattle are close to harvest, we just work for the best basis and exit our hedges. I am a customer and advocate of Producers Livestock, so I would urge anybody interested in learning more about them to contact them in Omaha.

Without getting into too many details on hedging 401, there are various ways to help cover unprecedented margin call possibilities. 1)Reown with a call. 2)Various option strategies. Helps a guy sleep at night and hey, one might enjoy it. I do.
