Chilliwack, British Columbia | That is what we do with Winter Wheat, I am assuming Spring Wheat could be treated the same. But you MUST do it early boot stage. As soon as you see heads, it is much too late. You won't actually get really high protein, only 15% or so, but it is very highly digestible protein, so the animal can use more of it than they can from alfalfa (from what I hear, we haven't fed alfalfa in several years, can't even grow it well here). I do know that I like feeding it, and have 60acres of it growing (hopefully still growing!) right now, and can't wait to chop it and feed it.
