if its less than a few thousand total he owes you imo not worth the hassle, yes he is in the wrong and stealing from you but lawyers will cost what he owes you. Now if were close to pushing 5 digits or more sue him. You issue with the yield data is why a lot of landlords don't like crop shares any more or flex leases where bushels are used to calculate the price. If I was you now after being burnt ask for all your rent up front. If I was renting land out its what I would do, I would be willing to take a few $$ an acre less to be paid all up front and not ever have to deal with non payment from tenants.
