Keith, interesting question as chairman of our local church cemetery we are seeing the same interest in cremation here also and that is rather new to our small church and I am not quite sure how to deal with it yet either. Our cost of a single plot (1 burial site) is $400 - same cost for members and nonmembers, we do not charge for opening/ closing. Local funeral director told me the other week that most local community cemeteries charge for 1 burial plot but allow 2 cremations in that one site. That makes sense to me as space is an issue but I am not sure where to place the headstones and still keep the same type of layout as the existing stones. 1/2 of burial plot cost goes to perpetual care fund and 1/2 goes to checking account to pay for maintenance. We used to have a older farm couple that mowed and took care of the cemetery as part of there service to the church and so did not charge but now we having to hire it done.
