Subject: Price protection for this years calf crop

I traded a few options a couple weeks ago to put a floor under some calves that should be feeder size in Aug-Oct time frame. Sold an Aug call at 170 to pay for 2 puts at 164. Market moved up lost money on call made money on puts(weird I know). With the puts being worth more I was thinking to roll them up to 170. I'm projecting it to cost $2000 to protect $6000 more. Is this something that seems like a good play or am I missing something or should I just leave my hedge alone?

Anyone want to talk me out of my short call position? I'm on the fence on it too. I should have bought one ten bucks from the money when I put this on. Those calls have doubled in price since then.

Thanks for advice, Luke
