1234, I follow your logic, makes sense, but not sure I can take it to the next step. The insinuation on here generally tends to be that China has dangled the carrot, not speculators. Of course China must have speculators too.

Us humans are also creatures of habit, always looking for patterns, and now we have computers trying to capitalize on those patterns and predictabilities. Don't need a logical reason for a market to go a certain direction, just need enough people thinking that it will, based on past history, to make it happen.

I suppose farmers( at least myself) are most optimistic in the spring, so least likely to sell crop(old, or new) waiting on better prices, plus they are busy, so it takes a premium to get the grain loose.

As 1234 said, if you are speculating on a weather rally later, you need to be in ahead of time, by the time it hits the news, they would be too late.
