Try a 90 day lay-a-way plan? Just kidding. A friend of mine manages a cemetery fund and about 4 years ago they went from 100% CD to 50% CD with investments in old line American Companies...Exon, Coke, Proctor, Whirlpool, Cat, Deere, etc. I don't know how many stocks but he did mention they don't have more than 7 positions to help keep it simple. There return has been much improved.
