Michigan.
Not only is pre-washing stupid, it's damaging.

The PH of the detergent is partially what gets things "Clean", and if it isn't balanced out by Gorp on the dishes, will etch glass, stainless steel, and take decorative finishes off of crockery.

There's a little manual that comes with the dishwashers these days. Just about all of them state clearly, and several times, to NOT pre-wash.

It drives me nuts. My wife does the same thing, and I have pointed out the Manual several times...but NOOOOOOOOOO.
One tiny grain of rice gets left on a glass, and I get the lecture about washing the dishes before washing the dishes.

There's no winning the fight, so I let her pre-clean the dishes.
That hill ain't worth dying on.
