McLeod County, MN | I have just gotten done going through all of the MN corn grower plots for the last two years. I made a list of all the MN producers from 2012, and then I went to 2013, and found those identical producers and compared their yields year over year. I figured there is a good chance that they have the same management and style year over year so there should be some validity to the data. I know its not scientific, but it is leaning hard towards lower 2013, yields in MN.
For those with plots in both years I found the 2012, average yield to by 203.61 BPA. For those exact same growers the average yield for 2013, was 190.41 BPA. Or statistically speaking that is just shy of 6.5% lower for 2013.
If we take that 6.5% lower and apply it to the 165 BPA yield from MN in 2012, we end up with 154.275 BPA for 2013. I am not saying the final yield is really that low, but there is NO WAY IN HELL we are within a bushel of last year. It also look like better than 6 out of 10 of those same growers had lower yields than the previous year. My data from the FIRST TRIALS backs up what this is saying too. Once again, I am not denying good yields, especially around that Mankato area, but 2013, was a far cry from 2012. I think USDA has some serious explaining to do.
