Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow | There are today about 260-280 million Chinese females between the ages of 15 & 40. If they all have one extra child before they reach forty there will be 250-260 million more Chinese than expected by the time the 15 year olds reach 40 in 25 years. Even if only half of them do it will still be 125 million. The Chinese are also beginning to allow more females babies to live because the sex ratio is so skewed that it threatens social unrest when so many young men can't find partners.
Also looking at countries where heretofore the birthrate was very high but so was infant and childhood mortality. As modern medicine etc. reduces infant mortality and eventually the birthrate of a population there is still many more people who survive and live much longer which just means they need to be fed.
