Subject: RE: Does tile pay off quickly on sidedress farms

A friend in the community, Darke County Ohio, said a few years ago that over tile lines there was a 25-30 bpa yield advantage according to the yield monitor. He does not see this every year. This was a pattern tiled on 60 ' center field, which is normal here. This field has a very tight Patton silty clay soil that represents only a very small portion of the soil types in this community. They are tiling this soil type on 30' centers. Again this is a "here" thing. You may blessed with soil types that have good internal drainage characteristics and tile will not payoff like other areas.

Happy New Year, Jim
