(12/17) Million Dollar Business Coming To Jefferson County

A new 4.4 million bushel grain storage and rail shipping facility is coming to Jefferson County. At today’s Jefferson County Supervisors meeting the board heard a presentation from Heartland Co-op on a planned investment just east of Fairfield. The facility which will sit on a 160 acre site will cost an estimated 25 million dollars and create nearly 30 construction jobs with 6 to8 permanent jobs when completed. The county, through a TIF District would agreed to pave portions of Osage and Nutmeg Ave along with improvements to the intersection of Pleasant Plain Road and Salina Roads. The estimated $3.7 million dollars in road improvements will be completed by the county though bonding which will be paid back over ten years using monies captured with the Urban Renewal Financing District. Construction will start in the spring of 2014 and start actual operation in the fall of 2015. The project has been in the planning for some time between the County, Fairfield Economic Development Association and Heartland Co-op and now will go to the co-op board for approval.
