Zmracing is correct on everything he says. We did sign up for it this year (Nov 15th) because we are concerned about prices going forward. I would add that I believe if you are using your RA as an arm of your marketing and are insuring at the higher levels (80 or 85%) then it would be that much more of a benefit to you. According to our figures it offers us a short term position for 3.9 cents/bu on 85% of our APH. It would be nicer if they offered it as an option in the summer prior to the crop year. And maybe they will eventually. You will need a guess as to what your acres might be for the coming year when signing up.
