I'm reasonably convinced that what you are seeing is the front and rear axles fighting each other. I don't believe it has anything to do with the diff lock. On a hard surface turn, the axles are going the same speed but different distances. Something has to give. Either it skids straight (same as if the diff lock was on), or the one back wheel has to spin a bit.
