What you are asking is that the farmer carry all the weather risk as well as the market risk. I think the futures traders have become so risk adverse that they are no longer acting like speculators but just market followers. This defeats the purpose of the futures market in the first place. Just a few years ago a futures trader had to hold a position at least a few days now it's microseconds. This is why revenue protection insurance will become more popular. And opportunity for the producer? It's also an opportuity for a smart enduser to lock up supply ahead of planting. It works both ways.
