Jesup, IA | I believe it is two related issues. The Fed needs more " high quality collateral" because of the real level of risk in regulated banks plus the off balance sheet risks of both regulated and shadow banks.
And yes, they need all this help in a time where traditional savers are being looted by low returns on their savings. They are lending with benign borrowing costs. They should be growing capital reserves like crazy. But instead, they have more profound risks than ever.
But I think the central issue here is that our Fed simply doesn't have much water in its squirt gun to put a fire of any size out. | |
