| If gas was $9-10 here and diesel similar, there would be a lot less money in the consumer pockets and food would cost more. It might be subsidized more than now , but actual cost would be higher.
Maybe you think subsidies by the government are not expensive. Two things have greatly improved farmers ability to spend lots of $ to grow as much as possible - ethanol and high guaranteed revenue.
Take away both and watch what happens to yields with high input costs from higher petroleum prices. Or maybe you think the oil co's will compete for your business and cut prices to get it. Did you happen
to check the price of rib eyes or prime rib in those countries. LOL, not likely beef in Turkey, more lamb and goat. Food is cheap in US. | |
